With an estimated population of 59,500, Rotorua is New Zealand’s 10th largest urban area. The name Rotorua is Maori and in full is Te Rotorua-nui-a-Kahumatamomoe.
Roto means ‘lake’ and rua means ‘two’ or in this case ‘second’. ‘Second lake’.
