Nobody loves reading privacy policies, so we've kept ours simple.
Who are we?
Rotorua Realtor is operated by Hielke Oppers, a Licensed Salesperson (REAA 2008) with Tremains Rotorua.
Personal information you provide may be collected and held by Hielke Oppers and Tremain Real Estate Rotorua Limited, trading as Tremains Rotorua, at 1127 Fenton Street, Rotorua 3010.
What do we collect?
The information you submit.
That could be your:
- name, email address and phone number;
- message or enquiry;
- property details;
- buying or selling requirements; or
- feedback and reviews.
Our website may also collect some basic technical details, such as your IP address, browser, device, pages visited and cookie information.
Where does it come from?
Usually, straight from you.
Sometimes we may collect relevant information about you from Tremains, another person involved in a property matter, a referrer or a publicly available source. We will only do this where permitted by the Privacy Act 2020.
Where required, we will take reasonable steps to let you know that we have collected the information, why we collected it and who may receive it.
Why do we want it?
So we can help.
We may use your information to:
- reply to your enquiry;
- arrange an appraisal;
- help you buy or sell a property;
- keep you updated about relevant properties or the market, where you have agreed to receive these updates or we are otherwise permitted to contact you;
- manage our business records;
- keep our website working safely; and
- meet our legal and professional responsibilities.
You can unsubscribe from marketing emails or messages at any time.
Do you have to provide it?
Usually, no.
But if a form says a field is required, we need that information to deal with your enquiry. After all, it's difficult to call you without a phone number!
If the law requires us to collect something, we'll explain that at the time.
Who gets to see it?
Only the people who need it to help get the job done.
That may include:
- Hielke's team and authorised Tremains staff;
- our website, email, IT, customer-management and anti-spam providers;
- buyers, sellers, agents, lawyers and other people involved in your property matter where reasonably necessary if you decide to buy or sell through us; or
- regulators and other authorities where the law requires or allows it.
Do we sell your information?
Absolutely not.
We do not sell or rent your personal information.
Does any information go overseas?
Possibly.
Some of the technology companies that help run our website and systems may store or process information outside New Zealand.
Where personal information is disclosed overseas, we will comply with the Privacy Act requirements for protecting information sent outside New Zealand.
What about cookies?
The digital kind, not the chocolate-chip kind.
Cookies help our website work, remember preferences, understand how visitors use it and protect our forms from spam. Tools such as reCAPTCHA may also receive basic information about your browser and device.
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, although the website may not work quite as smoothly.
How do we keep it safe?
We take reasonable, practical steps to protect your information from loss, misuse or unauthorised access.
We only keep it for as long as we need it, or for as long as the law and our professional responsibilities require. After that, we securely delete it or remove identifying details where appropriate.
Want to see or correct your information?
Just ask.
You can request a copy of the personal information we hold about you or ask us to correct something that isn't right.
We may need to confirm your identity first, simply to make sure we're giving it to the right person.
What if something goes wrong?
If a privacy breach has caused, or is likely to cause, serious harm, we'll notify the affected people and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as required by law.
